Hiring a wood chipper: a practical guide with prices

2026-01-20

FÖRST wood chipper with trailer, available to hire at Tecomac

Once the pruning is done, the cuttings pile up: trips to the recycling centre, the trailer back and forth, and hours you will never get back. A wood chipper turns that problem into a resource: chippings to mulch your beds and vegetable patch. And for one prune a year there is no need to buy one — you can simply hire it.

Hire or buy?

The rule is simple: if you chip once or twice a year, hire; if you are using one every week (gardeners, ground crews), buy — and in that case take a look at the FÖRST range, the professional benchmark.

Which model do I need?

What matters is the maximum branch diameter:

  • Up to 8.5 cm: our 15 HP ANOVA, compact and on transport wheels, at €85/day with a €150 deposit. Ideal for garden prunings.
  • Up to 15 cm: the professional 37 HP FÖRST with hydraulic feed and a 750 kg trailer, towable on a B1 licence. For big prunes, palm trees and heavy work.

Getting the most out of it

  • Chip branches while they are fresh, straight after cutting: the machine works better and the chippings come out finer.
  • Use the chippings as mulch: they suppress weeds and cut down on summer watering.
  • Keep a pile back for the compost heap — mixed with green waste it makes a nicely balanced compost.
